Description

This course enables participants to maximise the availability of the RS/6000, create a secure system and perform advanced system administration tasks not available via SMIT.

Audience

Advanced support staff and administrators of AIX 5.

Prerequisites

A working knowledge of AIX including one editor, shell programming and system administration tasks such as adding users, devices and filesystems. Students without this experience should attend the AU14U course.

Objectives

On completion of this course, participants are expected to be able to:-

  • Maximise the availability of the RISC System/6000 by performing system recovery from a variety of failures.
    Produce a policy for secure systems.
    Configure the accounting and disk quota systems.
    Configure customised terminals and printers.
    Setup cultural specific conventions.
    Produce a policy for replacing disks.
    Customise the SMIT screens.

Remarks

Follow on courses include AU18U and AU20U in that order.

Practical work

This course has a high practical content.
